We are inspired by our Mount Vernon Community of students, families, and staff who are showing great resilience, determination, and creativity to stay connected with one another and to support student learning. Their efforts to continue to make Every Day Count during this unprecedented time are amazing! Teaching & Learning staff are excited to share resources and ideas for staying connected and supporting student learning. Students are likely to hear from their classmates, teachers, and school sites with ways to stay engaged. Maintaining our sense of community supports our social-emotional health and will help each of us to remain engaged in learning. We hope you engage with and enjoy the ideas we post on our Every Day Counts! student learning blog. Stay tuned--we plan to begin posting on Monday, March 23rd! Many of the resources we will be sharing are available to all students via the MV TECHSMART K-12 DIGITAL LITERACY site.

3-30-2020 Bear Hunts and Thankful Hearts

Happy Monday!  I hope that you are happy and finding ways to learn new things, enjoy your family and stay healthy.  Your teachers have been working super hard to prepare new ways to help your continue learning during the time away from school.  Be sure to check in with your teachers to let them know how you are doing and find out what kinds of things you will be learning about this week.

We are all missing getting out and playing with our friends, but I learned of a few neat ways that people are sharing kinds thoughts with each other even when we can't be close.

#AWorldofHearts  :  People all over the world are decorating their windows with beautiful handmade hearts to let their neighbors know that they are thinking of them and to thank those who are out working to keep us safe and healthy.  What a great art project to do this week.  You could just cut out colored hearts and stick to the window.  You could use window paint to paint hearts on your window.  Or you could get super creative and do something like these stained glass hearts.  If everyone does this, it will be fun to see what everyone comes up with.  You can take a picture and share it here.  Or people can just enjoy the beautiful hearts you create when they walk by your house.

Nation-wide Teddy Bear Hunt: Why teddy bears have been showing up ...

Going on a Bear Hunt:  Another fun idea that neighborhoods are doing to have fun and stay connected is putting Teddy Bears in their windows.  Then when you and your family are out for a walk, you can hunt to see how many bears your spot in the windows.

Hey, you could do both!  How about some Teddy Bears AND Hearts in your window.

These ideas are great for all ages.  (I'm going to find some creative and fun ways to make some art for my windows, you can too.)
